Success of Chagas Project

With the help of its partners, TroZonX17 succeeded in developing a new Chagas Lateral Flow Test (LFT). A major milestone achievement, the simple to use, heat-resistant test can detect 96% of patients infected with the life-threatening parasite that causes the debilitating disease.

To progress the test’s development, the diagnostic manufacturing team at Coris BioConcept produced a prototype based on antigen discovery work headed by TroZonX17’s CEO Dr. Barrie Rooney. Working with other leading scientists from London School of Tropical Medicine, and University of Nottingham, Dr. Rooney led the consortium to identify a promising collection of antigens designed to detect genetic variations associated with the parasite. From this collection, Coris BioConcept incorporated a targeted selection of the top performing detectable antigens to create the high-sensitivity test.

Recently, Trozonx17 and its partners completed a Phase I clinical trial for the test.

Specifically, using the test to diagnose Chagas Disease on 100 stored blood samples representative of all strains of the disease demonstrated a robustness, reliability, and ease of use, that makes this new test suitable for remote locations and populations.

TrozonX17 Is now passing the baton to our chosen manufacturer because they possess the necessary experience for delivering affordable tests to populations globally, especially in LMICs. Moreover, they will conduct the next steps in the diagnostic development process: optimization, scale up, and roll out of the test.

The TrozonX17 Team would like to thank the Life Arc Translation Fund and team for providing the funding and support needed to bring this novel test to the precipice of reaching the vulnerable populations suffering from this drastically underdiagnosed disease.
